# Consoles & Maintenance Screens ## console role — a screen that is its own node A computer next to a monitor (a 3x3 multiblock is a great size) adopted as "console" runs the full FactoryOS desktop on that monitor — NODES, SWITCHES, POWER, CONFIGURE, GUIDES — the same apps as the mainframe. Everything is touch: tap an app button to open it, tap a list row to select+activate, tap the upper/lower half of a scroll pane to page. What touch can't do: type. Text fields (CONFIGURE editor) need a real keyboard — use the mainframe terminal or a wireless pocket computer. Each console is an independent node: if the mainframe dies the console still renders, and it can command any reachable node directly. ## displaytile role — a window into the mainframe Tiles pushed by the mainframe compositor show a rect of the main screen. With tileX/tileY set to the tile's canvas origin, taps on the tile are forwarded to the mainframe's window manager — the display wall becomes an interactive surface, and a maintenance tile in the server room is literally a window into the mainframe's screen. Set master = "" on input devices (navpads, tiles) so their touches target one node instead of every UI host on the channel. ## Suggested server room mainframe + monitor (ops wall via tiles) + console computer + 3x3 monitor on the wall (walk-up terminal) + navpad pocket computer for floor work
